Imagine if you would, that you are a visitor from another galaxy traveling 100 million light years to see new things and find intelligent life. Maybe looking for alternate water and oxygen sources for your planet.
It is three thousand years ago on this planet, when you arrive. You find a planet with clean air, clean water and a primitive people who have just started the progress of civilization and are well on their way to becoming an intelligent people.
You make the long journey back to your home world to report. But it is 100 million light years away, so by the time you return home and back to this planet several centuries have passed.
It is now fifteen hundred years later in our history, and although you find that the inhabitants have made some progress in civilization they are still primitive to your standards, but the air and water is still clean. You return to your home world once again to make your report.
Now it is present day in our time when you return. You are deeply saddened. You find that the inhabitants have progressed in their civilization, but have become less intelligent. They have ruined this beautiful planet. You find that you can not borrow any water or air for your world as it is now destroyed.
You find that once beautiful animal species that wandered the lands and air and seas are no longer around, they have become extinct for some reason or another.
You find that the beautiful oceans, once filled with life beyond means, are destroyed. Now harboring trash, dumping grounds, for medical waste, discarded bombs and weapons, leaking drums of contaminated waste, trash of humans.
You find once beautiful lands, filled with trees and plants and creatures of all manner, cleared and made of concrete and blacktop, used as nuclear test sites, stripped and destroyed for whatever could be mined from the ground below, trash dumped and dumped into land fills with waste that will stay around for longer than most of the humans that dump it, oil spills that contaminate the water and ground killing most wildlife around, environmental accidents from man-made manufacturing facilities that contaminate everything for miles upon miles killing or making sick people and animals.
You find the atmosphere that had such clear air and oxygen on your last visit, destroyed, filled with CO2 emissions from the vehicles and factories that man had created, the atmosphere changed so much that it was changing the weather patterns, that it had raised the temperature of the planet, that ice sheets on the polar caps that had been around longer than your visits were quickly disappearing, that some days in some cities air quality was such that some humans had to stay indoors.
You find that your visit this time brought tears to your eyes. You wonder how could such a beautiful planet be destroyed in such a short amount of time. You wonder how you will make your report to your leaders this time, no one will believe that this much damage could be done in such short time, no one will believe that people would care so little that they would destroy their own home. But here it is, you are seeing it for yourself. You had better take pictures and samples as proof.
NOW, imagine you are not an alien visiting our planet. You are yourself, living on this planet. I know myself, I have only been on this planet for 49 years, not visiting for over 3000 years, but have seen many changes in my lifetime.
I was raised outside of the Philadelphia area, and remember going down to the Jersey shore many summers. Atlantic City was great in the 60’s as it had the boardwalk, and my great-aunts had a salt-water taffy shop with an apartment above it right on the boardwalk at St. James and Boardwalk. So summers down in Atlantic City were great.
Now just 20 years later, in 1989, when I had a child and wanted to treat her to some of the same memories, my great-aunts shop and apartment was gone, replaced by a casino care of Donald Trump. You could not go barefooted on the beach for fear of medical waste washing up on shore, that might have AIDS infected needles in it. This change took place in just a little under 20 years.
I remember in my area, where I grew up outside of Philadelphia, corn fields and wheat fields and hay fields that just 20 to 25 years later were gone and replaced by concrete and blacktop with either homes or shopping centers.
Now in 1998, because of the economy, I relocated my family to a small town in Georgia. When we first moved here 11 years ago, it was a small town. You got to know your neighbors quickly, for that matter you got to know most of the people in town quickly and they got to know you.
The town was too small to have some services like where I came from up in the Philadelphia area, like they did not recycle. All trash was put together no matter what it was, plastic, paper, bottles and cans.
In just 11 years, I have seen many changes, the population of this little town has grown 4 times as much. You no longer get to know your neighbors or others in the town quickly because many new people have moved into the area. Many open areas that were once woods or fields are now concrete and blacktop with new housing developments.
One change that hasn’t happened yet, is that we still don’t recycle. In fact many communities in Georgia do not recycle. They just continue to lump all of their trash together, not separating any recyclables leaving them to rot and lay in the landfills for many, many years.
Another thing that has happened in the 11 years that I have lived here is that Lake Lanier, the major water source for most of the metropolitan Atlanta area, has dropped to its lowest level since it was created. This was due to a several year drought that hit the region and also a major water battle between 3 states who use water from Lake Lanier. But there has been no alternative plans to supplement Lake Lanier, just court battles and injunctions between the states who use it.
Now again, I have not been visiting this planet for over 3000 years, I have only lived on it for 49 years. I am not a special person with special powers of observation, but even I have noticed in my 49 years, changes, damages, destruction, contamination, extinction and all of the other nasty disgusting things that we do to our home.
WE DO ! WE DESTROY OUR OWN HOME !
This is our world, our home, but we are the most intelligent, stupid race in all the universe !!! As we knowingly destroy our surroundings and keep doing so. Do not worry about UFO or Alien invasion as governments or movies might have you believe, they don’t want this planet. NOT ANYMORE!! They are sitting back right now laughing at our stupidity.
