Music

Some people listen to the music
the tone of the words they see
Others listen only to the lyrics
Because it reminds them how it used to be
Some listen to find the freedom
that we want so much to see
To find the respect that they're parents lost
It's part of society...
Some listen to find determination
the strength music gives to go on
And with each new song they hear some truth
which makes people feel they belong.

The pastel painting below was one of the pastel paintings I drew and I had framed for this art exhibit.

Please check out this website www.whitehouse.gov go to issues and click on disability. On the far right hand side of the page is a column that addresses the Arts and disability issue. Recently, several art institutions and museums were invited to address the issue of making these institutions more accessable to the disabled in the United States. It is a fascinating article and well worth reading about since this just recently happened in the Obama administration. A continued discussion is mentioned and hopefully a link to this discussion.

Sorry to hear about your disability. All artists with disabilities have the right to exhibit and should be advocates for other disabled artists. The ADA was recently strenghtened by the Obama administration when Susan Rice signed an important civil rights agreement through the U.N. This agreement helps to protect the rights of the disabled in 15 countries. It is the first civil rights ledgislation of the 21st century through the U.N. Many people have disabilities and are trying to fight stigma, have access to education, employment, housing, healthcare ,basic rights, etc. We should support each others efforts for achievement in the arts. I am a member of V.S.A, arts at www.vsarts.org. I might be willing to exhibit in your show. Please feel free to post exhibit oppurtunities here and requirements. You need to take care of your health first so you can succeed at your art. I hope this helps.

I have a 22 year disability. It stole my ability to work or even enjoy any avocations. Gradually I've gotten better. But life will never be the same. Is life every the same? I am also an insomniac. I've thought of buying a sledgehammer (I mean for self-use). The insomnia is bigger than the other issues now. Does anyone mind corresponding at 2 am or beyond? I have gotten the Pikes Peak Arts Council interested in a show by disabled artists. I mean people whose lives were REALLY interrupted. Art is now my haven. My poetry is better than my visual art, and composition (music) better than the poetry. I'd love to communicate with some of you. maybe I can expand my show to include works from those out of town.

My computer is working and I have high speed internet. I recently finished all my radiation treatments 33 to be exact and I am very happy. I will be taking a drug for five years to prevent my cancer from coming back. I am moving out of the Company Store and into another location. The move has been hectic. I am trying to market my art from this new location that is a bigger space. I will be displaying my work by myself this time. I have to set it the display up this week. I may decide to have an openning. I am not sure yet. I am also cleaning my house since I was ill and didnt do alot.I am hoping that Obama gets a one payer health care system so I can have a chance at a career. I am working as hard as I can but still trying to get my energy back.
