LOUISIANA REGGAE/FUNK INFO & BOOKING: Henry Turner, Jr. 225-952-0784 henryturnerjr@gmail.com OREGON COAST BOOKING: Johnny Midnight 541-999-8784 What happens when you mix different people from different backgrounds with different musical styles? When Henry Turner brought together diverse artists with deep love and respect for their own particular genres, he created the unique irie tones of the Louisiana reggae/funk band Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor. The concept for the band started with Turner’s idea to develop a completely new kind of music. He comments, “I consciously wanted an infused sound, one with elements of R&B, reggae and blues, with some jazz chording. His goal was to create a fusion of contemporary and ethnic rhythms that would appeal to a cross section of fans in national and international markets, therefore creating a new musical genre – Louisiana Reggae/Funk.
His love of music began at an early age. Early musical influences came from blues and jazz greats B. B. King and George Benson, as well as the hypnotic mellow reggae tones of Bob Marley.
A lead vocalist and guitarist, Turner honed his skills playing in cover bands and on studio recordings. He worked as songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist with the Crystal band in the 1970s, and some of their original 45 RPMs recorded on the Lotus Land label are now collectors’ items, retailing for up to $250.00-$300.00 each.
In the 1980s, he put his career on hold, working at various record labels, which led him to found Hit City Records, a management and promotion company. As president of Hit City Records, he has managed several successful independent bands and artists. His experiences in the independent music scene eventually inspired him to put a new band together, get back onstage, and write material for this new musical genre.
Joining him on this quest in 1990, was veteran R&B drummer Ronnie Houston, who is considered the senior member of the troupe. Houston, who has toured the United States and Europe since the 1970’s, credits Bobby Powell, James Brown, Buddy Rich and Billy Cobham for his intricate and syncopated drumming style.
Bassist James Turner is also proficient on rhythm guitar, percussion, drums and keyboard. He has played with a number of outstanding musicians during his career, including Stax Records stars Rufus and Carla Thomas. For four and a half years, he backed renowned soul man Al Green.Personnel:Henry Turner, Jr. -- Guitar, Lead/Background Vocals

The band has released four highly successful CDs: WILL WORK FOR FOOD AND MONEY, FACING THE MILLENNIUM, 1999, LOUISIANA GUMBO COMBO, 2001, and their latest LOUISIANA FUNK BUFFET, 2007, an upbeat look at the continuance of life and love after Hurricane Katrina. The band debuted the new CD at the New Orleans Jazz Festival, with crowd and radio favorites being “Ugly Man,” “Look My Way” and “Gonna’ Be Alright,” which was featured on the 2009 Southern Soul Sampler, #11, produced by Southern Soul Radio, WMPR 90.1, Jackson, MS.Upcoming albums include BACK TO THE R&B FUNK and LOUISIANA SOUL which are scheduled to be released on Henry Turner’s own Hit City Record label in December 2009.

Releases in 2006 include “Louisiana Legends and Politricks” and “I Like to Smoke, Smoke, Smoke (but I don’t smoke dope).” In the fall of 2008, the band released as a single the favorite “Ugly Man,” a clever, tongue-in-cheek commentary on love from a man’s perspective, following up with the January 2009 release of “Bangin’ Yo Head Up Against the Wall,” a song with a positive and powerful message. Additional hit singles include “Fat Baby,” “Praising Jah,” “Limbo” and “Family.”With songs penned by Turner himself, Henry Turner, Jr. & Flavor’s music has been described as … “a sure crowd pleaser.”The internationally known band tours extensively.
